Another iconic classic from Akira Kurosawa tells about a ronin, Sanjuro, who arrives in a town that is ruled by two competing crime families. Sanjuro, a talented swordsman, convinces both of the crime families to hire him to protect him from the other. Sanjuro convinces each of the families to keep up their attacks on each other. When most of the men have been killed, Sanjuro finishes off the survivors.

This movie was one in which Kurosawa mixed in some black humor with his action, and it worked. In 1964 the was remade as A Fistful of Dollars, directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood in his first appearance as the Man with No Name.
