Mrs. Candice Dritschler was recently named Teacher of the Year for the Bridgeport School District. Mrs. Dritschler has been teaching at the Magnet High School since 1990. Currently, she is serving as a BEST mentor and a co-chair of NEASC committee for Central High School. She has taught in an Inter-district CSI program and is a member of the National Science Teacher Association.
In her Teacher of the Year documents she wrote :
"After parenting, teaching is the most important and most rewarding job in the world. We are helping our children to develop and hone their skills and talents; we are making the best investment our future by preparing children to become contributing members of our society. It’s not a job to be taken lightly.
Teaching, like parenting, also extends beyond the “normal” work day. Besides the usual lesson preparation and correcting, teachers need to attend, chaperone, or be the advisor for school related activities such as plays, athletic events, and dances to show interest and concern beyond the academics. What happens in the classroom is very important but without showing your commitment to the child as a whole person, the instruction in the classroom is usually less effective. It’s important to build the teacher-student relationship just as a parent would build their relationship with their child by attending similar events.
On graduation day, we are just as proud of our students as their parents are for their child’s accomplishments. Each student reflects our commitment to preparing the best citizens possible for our society and world."
We consider ourselves very lucky to have a person and a teacher of the quality of Mrs. Dritschler on the staff here at Central Magnet.
