Sudie James Simmons has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist , placing her among the top one percent of the more than 1.5 million juniors who took the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT). She is among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists with the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $35 million, that will be offered next spring.

Sudie has also has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction. To be an AP Scholar with Distinction students must receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Sudie has successfully passed AP tests in Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, US History, English Language and Computer Science.

Sudie has also been very active in extracurricular activities. She has won awards in writing and art show competitions. She is active in the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. She has been a tutor at a Bridgeport elementary school. She has done research at Fairfield University and at Trinity College in Ireland. Sudie is also captain of the Central's Fencing team and is a two time MVP. She is also active in the Connecticut Challenge and the Academic Decathlon. She also somehow finds time to play the viola with the Stamford Youth Orchestra.

In addition to being a wonderful scholar, Sudie is also a wonderful person. She has a delightful personality and enriches the lives of all those around her. Everyone in the Central community is proud to have Sudie James Simmons as a member.
